Working with Technology since 1983

We've (well, by "we", I really mean "me"!) been working with technology and computers since 1983 where we (there I go again) started at the Bank of New South Wales in their Network Control. Back then, it was all about the strength of the string and the size of the tin cans at the end of the string. 🧵

Now though, it is a slightly different water boiling implement of water-dwelling beings.

Fortunately, I seem to have an affinity for being able to communicate both with people and the technology they use. A bridge, if you like. 🌉

I love asking questions so that I can get to the heart of the issue. I also love challenges (there are no problems!), and creating great solutions so that the people I help experience relief and happiness. Well, at least as much as you can when dealing with that confounded bit of tech you are trying to master! 💻👩‍💻🖱️📱

Doing a Thing for This and That

Cheeky Monkey was instrumental in designing and doing a thing for This and That.

This enabled You Know Who to reach incredible heights and boosted profits by some numbers in front of a percentage sign.

Putting up the Christmas tree

This week I put up the Christmas tree and strung it with 600 Twinkly lights.

By golly gracious, does it look good.

Migration to Microsoft 365

This was a big project requiring hundreds of people hours. First we had to ensure everyone had current passports, then apply for their visas.

Once everyone was packed, it was a tumultuous morning getting everyone ready to get to the airport. Of course, we accidentally left Kevin behind. 🤦‍♂️

It was a 31-hour epic flight to Microsoft 365, but well worth the work. The unpacking alone took us 4 weeks.

Making People Happy

People often say that they feel like they should know more about their technology, whether it is their computer, phone or television.

I say to people that they should consider their technology like their car. People have all different levels of driving ability. Some peeps just drive to the shops and back. Some really push their cars and use every gram of its features and performance. However, nobody apologises when they take their car for a service!

It's the same with technology! Use it to the level you want or need, then call me to help get under the hood and make sure it is running tickety-boo for you.

I am 89 and my son helps me with all my technology such as my iPhone SE, my Google Nest, and setting the clock on the microwave and stove.

In my day, we had to walk everywhere: to the radio to turn it on and try to get the AM in just the right place; to the TV to change channel or turn the volume up or down, and to the newsagent to put on Lotto.

Nowadays, I can just say: "hey Google, turn on radio 2GB", and like magic, there is Ray telling me how it is. (Only until 13 December, apparently. 😢)

Anyway, Chris is someone that never carries a hanky and almost never wears a jumper.
